The market is set to surpass the revenues worth $1.4 billion by 2019-end. Nutrition Twins Spotlight APRE Pregnancy Research About Potatoes and Starchy Vegetables
Registered dietitians and longtime potato ambassadors, the Nutrition Twins, published an article, spotlighting the new APRE research which found vegetable consumption, including starchy vegetables, falls short of recommended levels among women of childbearing age. As the Twins wrote, ?°So this is great news if you?ˉre pregnant and craving potatoes! Or for that matter, it?ˉs good news for any of us who want to have our potato?-and eat it too. Woot, woot!?± This article ran in ModernMom.com, a site which enjoys almost 4 million unique visitors per month. The Nutrition Twins featured a potato recipe in the article and on their Pinterest board, and we expect to see both Twitter and Facebook shares. This is one of the many high-profile media results from the USPB consumer publicity blitz to communicate APRE?ˉs research findings, which were presented at Experimental Biology in March. FDF response to 'Food and the responsibility deal' analysis in the BMJ
In response to the analysis 'Food and the responsibility deal' published today in the BMJ, Barbara Gallani, Director of Regulation, Science Health at the Food and Drink Federation, said: ?°The UK has a world-leading salt reduction programme, thanks in no small part to the voluntary efforts of food producers. Voluntary action by companies over the past decade has helped to reduce adult intakes of salt by 15% and further work is on-going to help consumers meet dietary recommendations. ?°It's common sense that food producers should be involved in shaping a salt reduction strategy as only a thorough understanding of ingredients and recipes can result in stretching but realistic targets. FDF and its members continue to support a voluntary approach in order to deliver more and more timely than any legislation could achieve. ?°Having made great early strides to reduce salt in products, many companies are finding reductions harder to achieve without compromising product safety or jeop...

FDF response to British Journal of Sports Medicine editorial on physical activity, diet and obesity
FDF response to editorial in British Journal of Sports Medicine entitled 'It's time to bust the myth of physical inactivity and obesity; you can't outrun a bad diet' published 24 April 2015. Ian Wright, Director General of the Food and Drink Federation, said: ?°The benefits of physical activity aren't food industry hype or conspiracy, as suggested. A healthy lifestyle will include both a balanced diet and exercise, as Change4Life summarises: eat well, move more, live longer. ?°Yes, companies are taking action to highlight the importance of physical activity. However, they recognise that where they can have the biggest impact is in helping people to achieve a balanced diet. That's why companies are voluntarily providing clear on-pack nutrition information, and offering products with extra nutrients and less salt, sugar and fat, in a range of portion sizes, in support of government health policy. ?°This article appears to undermine the origins of the evidence-based government pub...

The feel-at-home eatery
A man who stands on a hill with mouth open will wait a long time for the roast duck to drop inside it. With these words Confucius advised that if you want to succeed at anything - get on with it! Don't hang about! And that applies equally well to enjoying a good meal, especially one in which traditions play a major part. A culinary institution since 1928, Jimmy's Kitchen Central has all the comfort foods that a well-travelled audience desires. Walking down a few steps to enter, the bar/lounge area lies to the left on one side, and a large dining area on the other with various nooks and crannies configurations, some more secluded for heart-to-heart revelations and others large enough for family gatherings. Comfort is the underlying theme throughout, and the bar/lounge also has a snack menu ranging from a bowl of fresh mussels steamed in white wine, to a pub-style Ploughman's platter of ham, cheese, pickles etc, and also simple snacks such as breaded mushroom t...

A screenshot of an online store on an internet Platform shows the sale of unauthorized beef . (ECNS) - Unauthorized and potentially hazardous American beef has crept into China's online market without approval from Chinese regulators, the Beijing Times reported on Wednesday. Some of the American Angus Beef sells for 98 yuan ($16) per kilogram. More than 200 online retailers offer unauthorized American beef. According to customer feedback, most consumers eat the beef with their families and it is particularly popular with children.
